IPL VS WORLD CRICKET

Cricket is one of the most loved sport in the world.
There are hardly any people in the world who are not aware of this sport. This game has got a great history behind it.If we look back at the origin of cricket, this game was first played in the Southern England. With the expansion of the British empire, this game too had made its mark in many countries. The first international match was played in the 19th century.By the 20th century India has entered into the cricketing world. And there has been a feeling of bonhomie among all the nations playing this game.

The rules of the game are laid by International Cricket Council(ICC) & Marylebone Cricket Council(MCC) together.Cricket is mainly played by 10 nations other than countries like UAE,Kenya,Afganisthan,Bermuda etc which play the game seldom. The rules and regulations of the game have been changing at regular intervals of time.

Cricket ,when introduced, was first played for 2 days. This led to the start of Test cricket played for 5 days. Then came the ODI's which was intitially played for 60 overs a side.It then got reduced to 50 overs eventually. The fielding restrictions and the change to uniforms from white dresses, change of red to white balls etc were a few changes made by the cricketing council over the years. This game has improved a lot in the last two decades and the people who admire the game have gradually increased over the years. So far, cricket in world, especially in India has become very popular and succesful game.If all this is to be considered to be one side of the coin, the origin of T20 cricket and most importantly the IPL and its impact on the World cricket is to be considered the second side of the coin.

T20 cricket was first started by England and Wales cricket board for English county matches. The first T20 international was played  between Srilanka and England in 2006.Since the inception of the T20 format the game has been very successful resulting in its spread around the cricket world. The ICL or The Indian Cricketing League was the  sort of English county in India introduced by the former cricketer and the worldcup winning captain,Kapildev and funded by the ZEE network.ICL was played for 2 seasons before it came to a halt  in 2009 due to lack of support from BCCI and their disparities with Kapildev.
Then came Lalith Modi who is the first commissioner of the IPL,which was incorporated from the same idea of ICL.It initially started with 8 franchises buying the players who were auctioned. There has been a huge fan support for the newly founded IPL,which has 20 overs played by each side. The IPL has now successfully completed 7 seasons with the second season played in South Africa due to the elections here in India. The IPL which is played during the summer every year for 40 odd days is kind of pure entertainment for the cricket lovers.

India is one such country which is very much obsessed with cricket.Infact, cricket in India is considered to be a religion. So the IPL which is played during the summer season has actually brought a new dimension to the cricket an a new hope to the cricket fans in the country.
By saying this,i mean that IPL has been undoubtedly a huge impact and also a great influence on the world cricket.

The T20 cricket has  actually brought in a lot of change in the ability of the players, especially in a batsman. And the reason for this is obvious. In a limited over format you tend to score runs quickly as you see in an ODI.And in a T20 format where you have only 20 overs a side, you need to be lot quicker.A batsman needs to score runs so quickly that, right from the word go ,his job is to slog slog and slog till he gets out.If a batsman is struggling to score runs, its better to get out and sit in the dugout ,so that the next batsman can take over the reins. So,the players after getting used to the T20 format started scoring biggies in the ODI and the Test format as well. We've seen Rohit Sharma score a double hundred twice in ODI's,Sehwag and Sachin also have a double ton to their credit. This wasn't the case before the commencement of the IPL.Scoring 200-240 runs by a team in an ODI seemed a grand total in the early stages of cricket. In the 21st century, scoring 280-300 runs in an ODI seemed to be a respectable or a reasonable score. But then, after the inception of the T20 format, players individually scored a double ton taking the team's score past 400.

"BOWLERS WILL SOON BECOME EXTINCT."
The above statement was made by the Indian former spinner Murali Karthik during the
World cup 2015,after  the Kiwi batsman Martin Guptill scored a remarkable double ton against the Windies. And that seems to be true.Let it be a new ball or an old ball, the bowlers are being throttled by  the batsman. Are the present bowlers not upto the mark or is it the influence of the T20 format that has changed the way the batsman are scoring runs? This seems to be a tough question to answer.Cricket is becoming a batsman's game!!
I wouldn't be surprised to see a team play with eleven batsman in near future.

"Divided by teams but United by the Kigfisher" was the tagline of the IPL 3rd season,i presume.
Any IPL franchise consists of players from different teams. On one hand ,we have players in a particular franchise from different international teams having respect for each other and displaying congeniality on and off the fields. On the other hand we have players from different franchises but from a same international team being belligerent towards each other. We've seen Kohli and Gambhir exchanging words. We've known the famous incident of Harbhajan Singh slapping Sreesanth. We've seen members from other international teams too exchaning a spurt of wordsThis is a major concern with the IPL.People often say that IPL is the main reason behind the rift between particular players in a particular International team.
With most of the franchises having their captains from the Indian team, unknowingly a race for a new captain after Dhoni has begun as every Indian player leading their respective franchise are doing extraordinarily well in their own terms.Gambhir led the KKR team to a 2 time champions, while Kohli on the other hand is also doing exceptionally well though not being a champion atleast once.

IPL has done more bad than good!!!
Cricket is often considered to be a gentlemen's game.
I don't hesitate to say that IPL has proved it wrong. With the betting, spot fixing and the match fixing scandals coming into light and three of the RR players including Sreesanth being involved in a fixing scandal and banned by the BCCI and big shots and the franchise owners like  Raj Kundra,N.Srinivasan and VindooDara Singh facing allegations of fixing and betting, the game is undoubtedly losing its sheen.
The BCCI,the IPL governing council and the franchise owners need to counsel the players and take steps to put a check to these kind of incidents before anything worse happens and maintain the glory of the game.
